This paper reports the development of a GIS-based decision support system for suitability analysis of new towns. The DSS facilitates the decision maker in conducting coherent deliberations about the suitability analysis of new towns by structuring complex geographic factors in the process of siting new towns with the aid of GIS and decision making techniques such as multicriteria decision analysis (MCDA) and analytic hierarchy process (AHP).
