Plan Smart--A GIS-Based Land Use Decision Support System

The City of Aurora, in partnership with several communities in the State of Colorado, is developing a GIS-based land use decision support system, named Plan Smart. Plan Smart was selected by the State of Colorado's Smart Growth Regional Partnerships Program to receive a $50,000 grant for system development. The Plan Smart system will include a series of computerized, easy-to-use planning tools for evaluating development proposals and preparing subarea plans State-wide. Plan Smart will develop analysis functions focusing on the following growth and development issues: · Development and transportation including street connectivity, transit usage, and pedestrian and bicycle systems · Development and environments including slopes, open space, stream corridors, soil erosion, water quality, and wildlife habitat · Conformity of growth and development with areawide goals and plans.
