A cooperative effort utilizing modern computer technologies to map ancient landscapes is proving very successful in the Four Corners region of the southwestern United States. The Ancient Landscapes Project integrates remote sensing/image processing, GIS, and GPS technologies to develop accurate spatial databases for large geographic areas that were extensively modified in antiquity. The project partners are working to develop tools for the identification, documentation, and management of the ancient landscapes dating between 450-1300 AD. The work done to date has proven the great value of utilizing new technologies for archaeological resource identification, documentation, and management.
