ARCOView is an extension that allows ArcView GIS to serve as the database management system and mapping system for exploration, engineering, and environmental departments. This extension was funded and developed internally by ARCO's International Exploration IT organization. ARCOView has become widely accepted and used within ARCO. The ARCOView extension provides five main areas of functionality necessary for use by the petroleum industry that ArcView GIS lacked. These are (1) standardized map generation that is simple for the casual user, (2) integration with currently utilized software, (3) data import/export functions, (4) seismic navigational data management, and (5) miscellaneous utilities for projection and data conversion/automation.
