Spatial Analysis of Geographic Data Using S-PLUS and Esri Software
Track:  Database Design and Automation
Author:   John H. Cornelison

This talk reviews development of an advanced Avenue extension including interfacing ArcView GIS with OLE/COM automation servers and clients, architectural considerations during the design stage, making scripts that are not reliant on a particular docGUI, and how multiple developers can simultaneously work with one extension. We further discuss three types of spatial data--geostatistical data, lattice data, and spatial point patterns--as well as the techniques for spatial analysis of each of them and why classical statistical techniques are often inappropriate for spatially related data. Finally we will cover how to harness the advanced statistical and graphical tools of S-PLUS and the S+SpatialStats module from ArcView GIS, ArcInfo, and MapObjects.
