Hundreds of miles of line. Thousands of towers. Hundreds of landowners. The electric transmission industry generates and needs access to large amounts of information. In an effort to improve the reliability and cost-effectiveness of an operation, a suite of facility management applications was developed. Each of the discrete modules was designed and developed with ArcView GIS, Avenue, Dialog Designer, and other off-the-shelf applications. Vegetation management, right-of-way management, automated graphical field inventory incorporating GPS, and best route analysis to field structures, as well as easy access to as-built design files, were just some of the reliability-centered maintenance tools included.
