HEC-RAS, the river analysis software developed by the Corps of Engineers, is a useful and powerful tool. More often than not though, the data for bridges, surfaces, and flow paths is not in a format ready for HEC-RAS use. To make the process more user-friendly, an application was developed that would link HEC-RAS with common GIS tools. It was developed with ARC/INFO, AML, ODE, Visual Basic, and HEC-RAS. It allows users not only to import and export ARC/INFO data, but to create and plot maps, query data concerning bridge status during flood events, and map flood extents with existing data such as land use or zoning.
