Low-Budget Solution to Introduce Precision Agriculture: An Aerial Photo Can Lead the Way
Track:  Agriculture
Author:   Robert Greenwood
Limited resources restrict small farms from using the technologies associated with precision agriculture. A farm map based on an aerial photograph then viewed and printed through ArcExplorer sets up a low-cost GIS. As part of map production all existing data about the property is added to the map, and standardized queries are set up by a service bureau. Standard spreadsheet templates distributed to the farmer track new data. A copy of the spreadsheet containing this data is sent to the service bureau by the farmer to update the project file.
