The Town of South Kingstown developed an in-house GIS facility in 1997 and recently completed a five-year implementation plan. We are currently in the first year of this plan, which involves linking four departments to the GIS. A centralized server distributes the GIS database in the newly rewired town hall. ArcView GIS, with customized Avenue interfaces, resides on individual desktops in the Planning, Tax Assessor, Building and Zoning, and Public Services departments. This presentation will outline South Kingstown's experience in developing a Town-wide GIS from the initial development of our GIS facility to our current initiative to integrate the GIS into the daily activities of four departments.
