ArcBrowser: ODE-Based ArcInfo Toolkit for Geoprocessing and Database Management
Track:  Application Development
Author:   Peter C.G. Veenstra

Esri's Open Development Environment (ODE) object wrapper around ArcInfo, coupled with rapid application development (RAD) such as Visual Basic, provides a powerful applications development framework. ArcInfo is a complex tool requiring in-depth knowledge and experience with its complex and multifaceted data model and structures. ArcBrowser is a Microsoft Windows Explorer-like tool built for ArcInfo using ODE components and Visual Basic. ArcBrowser works in the same manner as the standard Windows Explorer allowing users to copy, move, and kill coverages as they would normal system files. Users can also quickly view and thoroughly document ArcInfo coverages using the Microsoft Office Suite and Esri's MapObjects. ArcBrowser provides a series of translation/conversion routines and allows users to create interactive database documentation from existing coverages using Web-based technology.
