Over 80 percent of the data in Pierce County is land based and can be viewed spatially on a map. For years the public has had access to the data only by visiting County offices in person. But with the advent of GIS technology on the Web, citizens can access geographic data by logging on the Internet. Our citizens can now view tax parcel information, business locations, school districts, and a dozen more data layers. They can also do true GIS analysis with our Identify, Closest, and Vicinity tools. The software we use for publishing the County's data is MapObjects Internet Map Server from Esri. Other software tools to build our site include Cold Fusion, Visual Basic, and Java.
