Geospatial Education: Partnerships for Success
Track:  Universities and Higher Education
Author:   Robert Ivan Welch

The development of a successful course or curriculum involving geospatial information systems goes far beyond the acquisition of computer hardware and software programs. The grade school, high school, or community college instructor must arm themselves with the geotools (partners) necessary to make the effort a success. The issues of faculty, training, equipment, and software maintenance and updates are ongoing. Partnerships are there for the asking, and corporate as well as governmental partners can help build a successful program. Selecting curriculum modules and building programs to meet the demands of a changing work force are critical to success. Specific examples nationally will be demonstrated.
