A new technology has been developed by Esri-Germany, TopoSys, and Rotorflug to integrate airborne laser scanner data into a powerline GIS and management information system. Energy providers need detailed information about the location and actual technical status of their facilities network. Energy lines often follow rough terrain, and therefore permanent monitoring and acquisition of accurate and current data and management are mandatory. The combination of several basic technologies provided by the consortium allows us to fulfill these requirements of accuracy and currency as well as the practical usage of the database: Digital survey of the terrain structure includes vegetation, buildings, etc., gathered with the laser scanner technology of TopoSys (laser scanner data, remote sensing data); application of high-end helicopter flight management with helicopters of the company Rotorflug; delivery and maintenance of the worldwide leading GIS software of Esri to process and integrate geographic and remote sensing data in the integration system of the client; and GIS database design processing and database creation, georeferencing, and creation of the planning and management information system for the client by the planning and consulting company Prof. Schaller. The offered system solutions are open and compatible. According to client requirements, the provision of data, GIS systems, consulting, and turnkey system solutions, including training and maintenance of client staff, are possible.
