Real-Time Interpretation of Seabed Survey Data
Track:  Oceanography, Coastal Zone, Marine Resources

The GENIUS project is a research and development project aiming at providing close to real-time presentation and quality control of data obtained during seabed surveying and resource mapping. The sensors involved in modern seabed surveying (multibeam echo sounders, seismic profilers) typically produce huge amounts of data that are difficult to interpret during sampling. Although the individual sensor can be confirmed to work, it is impossible to ascertain the quality of the survey as a whole without going through a complete processing of the data. This is often a very time-consuming effort, during which the normally very expensive survey spread will have to stay mobilized in the area in order to resurvey where data is inadequate.
