The Hopi Indian Tribe in Arizona utilizes remotely sensed data sources to complement its existing land information system database in a variety of ways. This talk focuses on two examples: 1. The use of Landsat and SPOT imagery to assess range condition on a semiannual basis 2. The use of airborne multispectral data from the ATLAS (NASA/CRSP-Stennis) scanner to assess the extent and condition of riparian vegetation on the Hopi Reservation The problems and benefits of using these types of data are presented to allow users to decide if they wish to begin using remotely sensed data in their organization.
