Crime Mapping Case Study: Utilizing GIS to Study Threats and Intimidation Incidents
Track:  Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice
Author:   Noah J. Fritz

This presentation will discuss the implementation of a crime mapping and analysis system and the specific outcome that resulted from the collaboration of the University of Denver and the Pueblo (CO) Police Department. The Pueblo PD had received a grant from the Office of Community Oriented Policing Services to study the problem of threats and intimidation, as it is believed that this type of criminal behavior escalates to more violent incidents. ArcView GIS and crime mapping techniques were used to determine problem areas. The results were presented to police officials and the community in order to develop a community response at the neighborhood level.
