Scenario Type Seismic Damage Estimation for Yokohama, Japan
Track:  EMS/Fire/Disaster Management

On January 15, 1995, a severe earthquake struck the Kobe area of the Hanshin metropolitan area of Japan. More than 110,000 houses and buildings were demolished and over 6,000 lives were lost. It's said the delay of emergency response caused the damage to be more serious. In this study, we simulated a road network analysis for evacuation and fire fighting based on Scenario Type Seismic Damage Estimation. This type of analysis is very effective for cities that have densely built-up areas and complicated road network. Layering different factors such as soft ground, density, and railroads, on the network analysis results identified vulnerable areas in the city.
