Spatial Accident Management and Linear Referencing: Maps Are Not Enough
Track:  Transportation and Logistics
Author:   Graham Stickler

This paper gives an overview with practical, real-life examples of how GIS can enhance accident/crash data management and analysis. However, it shows that while spatial data is important, the need for an underlying linear referencing system is paramount for operational systems to provide meaningful results. Furthermore, without linear referencing accident systems are unable to integrate intothe operational environment of an organisations general highway management strategy.
