Type of Presentation
Workshop
Topic
Surveying Math
Presentation Length
Half Day (4 hours) or Full Day (8 hours)

Workshop Status
Previously established
Description; Half Day (4 hours)
The workshop I am proposing will teach surveying calculations to the technician. The topics include coordinate geometry; bearing-distance intersections; bearing-bearing intersections, distance-distance intersections; horizontal curves; layout of horizontal curves; passing a curve through a fixed point; locating the intersection of two vertical tangents; vertical (Parabolic) curves, and passing a vertical curve through a fixed point. It is the intent of this workshop to gear it to the sub professional (technician), in order to give them an understanding of the theory behind the calculations they do in their data collectors. This will also get them involved and show them that these national conferences are a benefit to them. This course will also help in the preparation of the LSIT exam.
This course has been taught before, handouts are being modified.

Description; Full Day (8 hours)
The 8 hour workshop will cover the same topics as the 4 hour workshop but will include having the student do the calculations in class and discussing the results.
This will give the learner a better understanding about the various calculations.

Learning Objectives
You will learn
How to calculate and work with coordinates
How to calculate and work with horizontal curves
How to calculate and work with vertical curves and straight grades
For the learner to better understand the theory behind the calculations

Intended audience's Experience Level: Introductory to intermediate

Available dates for Presentation: Any time during the conference
