Type of Presentation
Workshop
Topic
Surveying; Understanding Random Errors

Presentation Length
Half Day (4 hours)

Workshop Status
Previously established

Description
The workshop I am proposing is to teach random error theory to survey technicians. The topics include discussion on precision and accuracy, understanding the difference between systematic and random errors, significant figures in measurements, random error propagation, a basic overview of using statistics, random errors in angles, and random errors in distances. I would also have a discussion on using weights with measurements.
It is the intent of this workshop to gear it to the sub-professional (technician), in order to give them a better understanding of measurements and what they are measuring, also to get them involved and show them how a national conference can help them. This workshop will also help prepare the technician for their LSIT exam.
The course will be an overview and all topics will be covered in a 4 hour time period.
