The Convergence of GIS, BIM and IFMS, and the transformation from 2D to 3D in facility design and management. In 2007, detailed GIS utility maps of the Bowling Green State University campus were created as part of an Infrastructure Master Plan Study. This along with a migration in facility design from 2D (CAD) to 3D (BIM) has served as an invaluable tool for the University while implementing over $100M in new construction and $50M in renovation projects over the last 24 months. The development of the GIS system and the utilization of BIM has allowed Bowling Green State University to compress schedules, minimize project changes, and reduce cost. Going forward the University is moving toward utilizing BIM as a source of input data for the GIS and ultimately for an Integrated Facility Maintenance System (IFMS).
