Abstract

From RTK to Mobile: High Accuracy Municipal Infrastructure Data Collection
Track: Technology
Authors: Steven Santovasi

This presentation demonstrates the ability to incrementally improve the geographic accuracy of GIS utilizing RTK-GPS, Mapping Standards for CAD (MSC), and ESRI's suite of GIS products. The current Municipal Infrastructure Data Collection Program for Waterbury, Connecticut encompasses the use of Land Surveyors, Civil Engineers, and GIS professionals along with department specific utility inspectors to create a utility GIS that manages the complete lifecycle of each structure.
The demonstration will also show how this data is published to mobile applications using ArcMap, ArcGIS Server map services, ArcGIS Online web maps, and ArcGIS iPhone/iPad mobile applications.

Participants to this seminar will become educated to the concepts, practices, and procedures of RTK gis. It redefines the roll of the Land Surveyor as the discipline responsible for geographic accuracy.

This presentation has been presented and very well received at both the 2010 Carlson International User Conference, and the 2010 Rhode Island Land Surveying Convention.
