Abstract
Owning property in a foreign country is an important monetary decision. When that property purchase is in a foreign nation the purchaser must become astutely aware, of the legal regulations, survey ordinances, and deed and title issues as they pertain to that property. This research proposes steps that can be used by an intermediate Geographic Information System (GIS) user to develop their own localized and personalized GIS for their property needs (e.g. taxation, deed and title issues, regulations, drainage, land use, property maintenance and construction) by using ArcGIS mapping products and geospatial data sources available through the Irish Spatial Data Exchange (ISDE) and ArcGIS Online. The steps followed will be the method for searching, selecting, acquiring, and managing of the geospatial data delivered from the ISDE to a Personal and/or File geodatabases for individual consumption. The exploration of how ArcGIS Onlines Resources may be used for individual and small group property owner needs by setting up ArcGIS Online Group Shares will also be explored. This research report demonstrates the freely available geospatial data sources offered by the ISDE and ESRI. The study further examines how this Irish Geo-Informatics System as a data resource repository supplies the opportunity to foreign and dual citizen property owners living aboard to access their properties spatial and non spatial data over the internet. Thereby, allowing them to develop a localized GIS for their property needs (e.g. taxation, deed and title issues, regulations, drainage, property maintenance and construction).
