Abstract

How to model GIS with Lidar
Track: Technology
Authors: lindsay weitz

A GIS system organizes and stores information about the world as a collection of thematic layers.  These layers use features to model the natural and constructed environment throughout a common geographical representation.  GIS provides powerful and versatile organizational and analytical tools to solve many real-world problems.  In recent years, the GIS community has been adapting 3D GIS data into a traditional 2D environment.  GIS has evolved to manage 3D GIS data, similar to data associated with lidar point clouds, allowing users to integrate and analyze information in 3D.  This discussion will focus on the basic principles of working with lidar data in ArcGIS.
