Abstract

The Missing Link: Getting Your Survey Data into a GIS
Track: Technology
Authors: Rudy Stricklan

Although survey data is a critical GIS foundation layer, how to properly get point-centric survey data into a GIS is rarely described. This presentation by a professional land surveyor explains the processes involved with preparing and importing survey data into Esri ArcGIS geodatabases, including
. methods of GIS-focused data formatting and quality control
. moving spreadsheet-stored control point data into a geodatabase, with appropriate metadata
. converting CAD-developed subdivision plats into an ArcGIS Parcel Fabric
Although certain final steps of ArcGIS geodatabase delivery require the use of advanced Esri desktop software (ArcEditor or ArcInfo), this presentation is geared primarily towards ArcView-level operations that will enable survey practitioners to start at an affordable level and make progressive investments as their GIS business opportunities expand.
