Abstract The Seymour-Oneida Arsenic Project: Community Service through Mapping Track: Community Projects and Partnerships Author(s): Becky Nutt, Carol Johnson Students from Oneida Nation High School, a BIA grant school, have partnered with our neighboring high school to increase citizen awareness of potential arsenic contamination of ground water. For the past five years students have been soliciting water samples from community members, having those samples analyzed, and sharing results with the community. ONHS students are using ArcView software to develop two and three dimensional maps as part of the project. The maps provide visual representations of where contaminated wells have been identified, and other variables associated with contamination. The three dimensional map shows the relationship between well depth and well casing depth to contamination and the contamination source, the St. Peters Sandstone formation. The project was awarded a $10,000 grant from Toyota TAPESTRY to further the study to include how other heavy metals relate to arsenic contamination. Oneida Nation High School received software and training through the Eagle Vision Project.
