Abstract Integrating Web Maps, Videos, and Exercises for GIS Career Awareness Track: Teaching with GIS in Schools Author(s): Ming-Hsiang (Ming) Tsou, Ting-Hwan Lee This paper introduced a multimedia Website (http://geoinfo.sdsu.edu/hightech), funded by the National Science Foundation, for promoting GIS Career Awareness. The website combines several educational tools, including Web Mapping Services (ArcIMS), GIS videos (YouTube), and GIS learning exercises (PDF documents) to introduce GIS concepts and applications for high school students and teachers. The Web Mapping Services are created by using Esri ArcIMS. The design of the Web mapping applications focused on problem-solving scenarios and real world problems. By utilizing YouTube and other online video services, we can demonstrate the applications of GIS in actions in various ways. High school teachers can also download four Web-based GIS learning module instructions from the Website to use them in their courses. The development and the implementation of the Website are a collaborative effort between San Diego State University and San Diego Mesa College, funded by the National Science Foundation Advanced Technological Education (NSF-ATE) program.
