The need to simulate the operation of the transportation system at a detailed level and account for land consumption at a similar detail requires future forecasts to operate at the parcel level. These requirements produce an "explosion" of output, which only the visualization properties of GIS are able to handle. In responding to the challenges of modeling in the new millennium, Metro uses GIS to integrate the output of four simulation models from a variety of control zones and map the data back to parcels. The parcel data is made available to users by geographic zone ranging from the parcel to the entire economic region.
