The Salt River floodplain, located near Phoenix, Arizona, was studied using the Hydrologic Engineering Center's River Analysis System (HEC-RAS) with HEC-GeoRAS. HEC-GeoRAS, a set of procedures, tools, and utilities for processing GIS, data in ArcView GIS was used to assist in model development and analysis. Spatially referenced depiction and visualization of flood depths and velocities developed by GeoRAS provided valuable tools for evaluating impacts associated with ecosystem restoration and flood damage reduction alternatives.
