Abstract
 Using ArcReader to Share Maps: An Emergency Management Agency Application Track: Disaster Mangagement and Emergency Response Author(s): Ashley Lesh The Center for Geographic Information Sciences (CGIS) at Towson University utilized ArcReader software as a solution to distribute critical facilities datasets for the Maryland Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) to emergency managers throughout the State. This presentation focuses on the processes employed by CGIS to develop the ArcReader application and the applications functionality and effectiveness as a means of distributing the critical facilities datasets. These datasets include facilities and residential areas that are at risk of shoreline erosion, flooding, dam failure, hurricane storm surge, heavy snow, radiological exposure, and wildfire. With the use of ArcReader 8.3, emergency managers can view, explore, and print published map files without GIS software. This allows the datasets to be easily shared with each of the twenty-three counties, Baltimore City, and other Maryland municipalities for purposes of viewing and querying the spatial data. Specific features and functionality included with ArcReader 9 will also be discussed.
