Abstract
 SmartConservation: Decision Support for Prioritizing Ecological Resources Using Esri Software Track: Ecology and Conservation Author(s): Clare Billett, Robert Cheetham SmartConservation is a program developed by Natural Lands Trust (NLT) with assistance from the Southeast Pennsylvania conservation community. It uses GIS and Esri products to identify and prioritize the best natural lands and ecological resources throughout the Expanded Piedmont ecoregion of Pennsylvania using three primary components--GIS mapping prioritizations, green infrastructure, and a site-to-site web-based assessment tool. The audience will receive an overview of these components of the decision-support program, with an explanation of their purpose and how they interrelate. Two components are spatial prioritization processes that are produced using Esri ArcGIS products, while the third is a web-based decision-support system based on ArcIMS. This workshop will illustrate a more strategic approach to conservation resource planning that may significantly help improve the effectiveness of other conservation practitioners who use GIS and Esri products.
