Abstract
 Automated Three Dimensional Planning and Visualization Tool for Urban Environments Track: Application Development Author(s): Terry Kinsman In 2001, the Centre City Development Corporation contracted KTUA, landscape architecture and planning consultants, to develop a planning tool to support the Community Plan Update for the community planning area of downtown San Diego. The planning tool would allow planners to generate many development scenarios for comparison in order to update the community plan for the downtown area. Reports are generated from the data collected in the working scenarios. Additional functionality included rendering of the scenarios in ArcScene to provide an opportunity for planners to understand the visual impacts associated with each scenario. The Scenario Builder Tool demonstrates how GIS developers can create an automated, powerful, yet lightweight application using VBA to accomplish complex processes used in planning analysis.
