Abstract

GEOCOMM/COSMOS is a system infrastructure for Communicating, Monitoring and Tracing Fixed and Mobile Assets, through mobile communication networks (terrestrial and satellite).
GEOCOMM/COSMOS permits to the users to customize interactively their specific application protocols. It is designed to be highly configurable by the final user, in order to permit the highest interaction between the operator in the base station and the remote assets.
GEOCOMM/COSMOS includes the following features:

• System configuration (user and network access, application protocol, cartographic data)
• Message transmitting, receiving and archiving through standard e-mail protocols
• Cartographic database displaying
• Application data graphic display
• Message and data switching to and from the following communication networks:
• ORBCOMM
• EUTELTRACS/OMNITRACS
• EMSAT
• GSM/SMS.

GEOCOMM/COSMOS is available on Microsoft Windows 95 and Windows NT operating systems. It has been designed using standard software technologies, like Esri MapObjects for cartographic data management, MICROSOFT Visual Basic and C++, Sun Java for user interaction and e-mail handling and Microsoft Access and SQL Server RDBMS for data base management.
