AbstractGIS Based Sewer Network Analysis Project in Metropolitan Areas Track: Water Distribution, Wastewater, and Stormwater Author(s): Kyehyun Hyun Kim, Jun Chul Kim This project mainly deals with how GIS-based sewer network analysis could provide more benefits compared with conventional aproaches. Digital layers of the topography map, pipelines of rainfall and wastewater and, major road networks have been generated as a spatial database for this project. Also, major environmental parameters needed for calculating wastewater and rainfall were included in attribute form: number of population, soil characteristics, the size of the drainage basin, curve numbers, etc. The results showed that GIS-based sewer network analysis could facilitate real-time basis decision making in terms of cost, the size and materials of the pipes, and identifying major pipes with serious aging problems. The analysis could provide more efficient and cost-saving management of the sewer pipes through the simulation of the various scenarios. Also, this enables reduction of damages from severe floods through the improvement of flowing capacity of the existing rainfall pipes.
