Track: Ski/Avalanche
Author(s): Evan D. Stevens, Faerthen Felix

The avalanche community is discovering a number of opportunities for the integration of GIS. These Internet-based projects include

-Visibility studies to locate remote weather stations based on radio telemetry minimum requirements

-Avalanche atlas of the State of Utah

-Public display of avalanche information in the form of 3D maps of hazardous areas and starting zones as well as 3D maps of current hazardous terrain based on field observations by avalanche forecasters

-Database compilation of avalanche and snowpack information

-ArcIMS Web site that provides the public with access to historical data and real-time avalanche information
