Abstract
Solving the Enterprise GIS Puzzle…Track: State and Local Government

In four years, the City of Kitchener (population 180,000) has fast-tracked implementation of GIS by embracing new technologies both in the realm of GIS and tabular business systems. The resulting Web-based GIS enterprise system (Onpoint Enterprise by Orion Technology Inc.) is connected to a data warehouse that handles all tabular information. A document component allows direct Web access to thousands of related raster/digital/vector documents.
Technical information regarding the integration of technology and business systems will be presented along with the difficult issues regarding "buy-in," competing priorities, and agendas typical of local government.
