AbstractUsing GIS to Automate Field-Based Utility Inspections and Facilitate Data Integration Track: Water Distribution, Wastewater, and Stormwater Author(s): Joseph McEachern, Amymarie R. Corriveau As part of Boston Water and Sewer Commission's (BWSC's) City-wide Catch Basin Inspection, Cleaning and Preventative Maintenance Program, Camp Dresser & McKee (CDM) has developed an application and data management program to support field-collection and data integration with BWSC's existing Esri GIS/Oracle databases and Computerized Maintenance Management System, CASSWORKS by RJN. The project required mobilizing crews to electronically capture spatial and attribute information on approximately 33,300 catch basins, and automatically integrating this data into a tiled GIS that relied on a manually operated GIS maintenance/editor. This paper will discuss the field-based ArcView application and the data integration approach developed by CDM.
