AbstractIntegrating Concepts of Geospatial Metadata into GIScience Education Track: Universities and Higher Education Author(s): Lynda Wayne Efforts to educate students in the production of metadata often relinquish the topic to an individual lecture. This approach reflects that of the GIS professional community, as metadata is commonly produced as an addendum to the geospatial data development and analysis process. The highest quality metadata, however, is captured during data development as values and methods are implemented. In addition, early documentation of such information can prove vital during geospatial analysis and the exploration of alternative methods. This paper outlines specific areas of the GIScience curriculum in which concepts of metadata can be integrated into traditional lecture topics and exercises.
