Abstract
City of San Bernardino/Urban Fire Hazard Mitigation

The City's Vegetation Management Project will mitigate the potential for a local area wildland fire through prescribed burning of approximately 1,200 acres of wildland interface over a five-year period. The GIS software provided through the Project Impact Community Challenge Grant will assist the City's Fire Department during the planning and implementation phases by providing the capability to produce maps depicting designated burn areas. These maps would be used in developing burn plans for each site that are essential for proper burn implementation. The City, in conjunction with County, State, and Federal agencies, is also exploring the creation of an Internet Web site using GIS technology to monitor ongoing County-wide prescribed burn projects.
