Abstract

Disaster Resistance Along the Ohio River--Clermont County, Ohio
Track: Federal Government Systems
Author(s): Elizabeth Nevel

Flooding of the Ohio River is the number one natural hazard for Clermont County. With the Ohio River as its southern boundary, the hilly terrain in this portion of the County is prone to flash flooding during heavy rains.

Clermont County hopes to integrate GIS with the Department of Public Safety Services by facilitating identification and location of "at-risk" individuals in the event of a disaster or other emergency. Areas prone to flooding will be delineated in our GIS, enabling emergency personnel and/or local law enforcement officials to determine appropriate evacuation routes.

With the help of ArcIMS and the Internet, Clermont County hopes to more easily distribute information vital to local emergency organizations.
