AbstractRoad Conditions on the Internet at VTrans Track: Transportation and Logistics Author(s): Shawn G. Nailor The Vermont Agency of Transportation (VTrans) undertook the project of providing current weather-related road conditions to the traveling public via the Internet. The decision was made to maintain the data in a SQL server database and present the data on the Web using Esri’s ArcIMS. The maintenance of the road condition information is accomplished through an Intranet application developed by VTrans and used by the district offices. Esri’s ArcSDE provides the means by which the spatial data and the join between the graphics and condition information are managed. This method allows for any changes in the road conditions to be shown immediately on the Web site. This session will discuss the methods and tools used to successfully implement this project at VTrans and the problems that were encountered along the way. Shawn G.
