AbstractE911- GIS Applications in Public Safety Plant Equipment Inc. Track: Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice Author(s): Jeff Freeland In public safety, geography is playing an important role more so than ever. Most 911 incidents often generate a variety of data from multiple agencies. The capability to access and process locational information quickly and deploy resources where needed can be extremely critical. Decisions based on this flood of information are about to wash over the continent’s public safety agencies. More and more Public Safety Answering Points (PSAP) are receiving E911 (Enhanced 911) calls from cellular devices. The FCC 99-245 mandate for wireless is slated for October 2001 holds PSAPs accountable for locating cellular E911 calls geographically. Plant Equipment’s ORION solutions based on Esri Core Technology are on the job. This paper discusses success stories of GIS enabled PSAPs.
