AbstractGeoreferencing Population Information at the Census Bureau's International Programs Center Track: Humanitarian Affairs and International Development Author(s): David R. Rain The International Programs Center (IPC) of the U.S. Census Bureau provides technical assistance around the world on how to conduct censuses and surveys. A veritable alignment of the planets--the 2000 round of population censuses, the spread of microcomputer and GIS technology, and the explosion of need for georeferenced demographic data--has created an opportunity to set the standards to make census data spatial. This presentation will highlight some geodemographic initiatives under way at IPC including creating a warehouse of population-related data and attributes, providing GIS technical help to developing countries, and creating new data warehouses for uses such as humanitarian assistance.
