AbstractExperiences in Natural Language Interface Implementation Geospatial Information Track: New Technology and Technology Integration Author(s): Sumit Sen Natural Language can be used to query geospatial data better than generally used SQL and responses to such queries. Natural Language, however, has to be transformed into a formal representation to enable queries of geospatial data or to answer them. The representation has to uniquely cover all topological relations including binary, directional, path relations, intrinsic properties, and metric terms involved in a universal sense. It should be standardized and processible for logical operations like query optimization. A model based on these requirements has been suggested. Some sample processing of natural language queries using the model and subsequent reprocessing of query results to Natural Language provide favorable results. Interoperability and processability of the model are discussed. Pilot implementation of such a Natural Language representation model using MapObjects has been done and results are discussed.
