AbstractmTrack--Mobile Tracking and Communication System Track: Transportation and Logistics Author(s): Jarko Laine The mTrack system combines automatic vehicle location (AVL), job dispatch, and remote monitoring and alarming with two-way wireless online data messaging. mTrack's in-vehicle positioning is based either on GPS or cellular network positioning. The location information is transmitted automatically or on request via wireless networks to the control room, which can be in the Internet or a mobile terminal using GSM/SMS or WAP. The mTrack system is developed using C++, ArcIMS, ArcSDE, and Java. This paper describes how GIS can be utilized with modern wireless applications. It will address also what the key points are to consider while building an application in the field of mobile GIS. Jarko Laine Novo Meridian Oy P.O.
