AbstractISO Standards in the GIS Community-Panel Discussion Track: Federal Government Systems Author(s): Charles Roswell Lead by Charles Roswell of NIMA The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Technical Committee 211 for Geographic Information / Geomatics focus is to develop standards for Digital Geographic Information. The standards specify methods, tools, and services for acquiring, processing, accessing, presenting and transferring geographic information in digital/electronic form about objects or phenomena that are directly or indirectly associated with a location relative to the earth. The standards link to appropriate information technology standards and provide a framework for the development of geographic data applications. This calendar year ISO TC211 will release fifteen International Standards. This session will provide a synopsis of ISO efforts and provide discussion on standards most relevant for implementation by this forum such as: Spatial Schema, Temporal Schema, Spatial Referencing by Coordinates, Quality Principles, Quality Evaluation Procedures, and Metadata."
