Abstract

Special Media Panel on What Journalists Need to Tell Your GIS-Related Story
Track: State and Local Government
Author(s): Chris Thomas

Journalists have an infinite number of stories available to tell each day. Which stories they select can depend on the content, its form and its ease of use. Journalists like maps (and their underlying data) because they deliver the most information in a given space or time. Esri and Boston University’s Institute for Analytic Journalism will host a panel of leading TV and print journalists to discuss what city, county and state project managers should know to present their stories to local and national media. Panelists will discuss what journalists look for when evaluating a story, and what ingredients are required for any GIS-related topic. In addition, the panel will address specific technical issues as they relate to the needs of print and broadcast media.
