AbstractSpatial Watershed Hydrology Tool: Watershed Delineation and Regression Analysis Using ArcView Track: Modeling Author(s): Amit Armstrong, Alan R. Lulloff, Dean Djokic With rapid advancement in GIS technology and availability of data layers, spatial hydrologic modeling can now be completely integrated with ArcView. This paper presents the development of a hydrology tool to automate watershed modeling using flood-frequency regression equations developed by USGS and GIS data layers for the State of Wisconsin. The hydrology tool is custom-designed for Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources to perform watershed analysis using Avenue and VB code and uses core functionality of HEC-GeoHMS. The topographic and hydrographic themes that form the basis for this tool are based on the statewide digital elevation model and its derivatives. Other data requirements include statewide land use grid for calculating percent of forest and storage, snowfall tin for snowfall intensity, rainfall tin for rainfall intensity, gaging station layer for flow adjustments, hydrologic region layer for selection of regression equation, and soil permeability layer. The tool provides the functional capability to delineate a contributing watershed at any point in the State, calculate the discharge at that point using regression equations, compare the discharge with similar gaged stations, and modify the discharge based on this comparison. HMS input files can also be created in conjunction with this tool. Initial application of the tool indicates significant performance gain compared to the traditional methods.
