Historically, the telecommunications industry has not invested in geo-spatial data as a mission critical asset. The need to collect and manage this data is becoming increasing critical for the following reasons:
Industry consolidation
Time to market for new products
Improvements in technology (PC based field data collection methods, DGPS, Automatic fiber monitoring systems
Many business processes in telecom organizations involve the use of location based data
Operators are now looking for ways to differentiate their services, reduce costs and enhance their operational support systems. Today the best monitoring system monitors less than 25% of the network because it is on paper or at best in cad files and not integrated into OSS. Program management processes are critical to meeting these needs and can insure, on budget, on schedule and as-designed results. We will review actual case studies where program management processes dramatically improved project performance.
