AbstractThe Virtual Ocean Data Hub - Bridging the Science Data/GIS Gap Track: Metadata and Data Publishing Author(s): Ted Habermann, John Cartwright The Earth Science Community is divided into users of science and GIS formats. Both groups have data sharing tools, but a gap still divides them. The Distributed Oceanographic Data System (DODS) enables sharing with a network data protocol, servers that translate science into this protocol, and clients that read these data. The National Ocean Partnership Program (NOPP) has decided on DODS for the Virtual Ocean Data Hub. The VODHub project includes academia, government agencies, and the private sector. Esri and NOAA's National Geophysical Data Center are building the bridge between science data and GIS. We will discuss system architectures and approaches.
